South Asian Health
Initiative
The South
Asian Health Initiative was formed in 2003 to respond to the growing numbers of
South Asian immigrants and their families in the Delaware Valley and their
particular health needs. The primary activities are aimed to increase the
awareness of cardiovascular disease in this population.
This year
the Heart Health Pavilion will be set up at the 15th Annual
International Spring Festival (ISF) located at North Penn High School
in Lansdale, Pennsylvania. For the past
15 years the ISF has provided the community with a free event that celebrates
and encourages diversity. This year the CVI is providing the ISF with a health
education component.
The goals
of the Heart Health Pavilion are to:
1. Raise awareness of risk factors
associated with cardiovascular health
2. Screen attendees and identify high
risk individuals (or those having clinical symptoms of CVD)
3. Link attendees with information on
healthcare providers and health centers
4. Provide ways to maintain
cardiovascular health through the development of a culturally appropriate,
multidisciplinary approach.
